With the economy down and family budgets tighter this year than last, a great way to experience a family afternoon of fun on Monday, July 4 is to attend a parade and see some fireworks. Both are free and only a few miles from Loomis. The Loomis Lions Club is one of six clubs sponsoring this year’s parade in Auburn. More than 50 colorful floats, music, horses, old cars and clowns will head down Auburn’s Lincoln Way at 7 p.m. and march the mile to the entrance of the Gold Country Fairgrounds. In the center of the parade will be the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society making crazy music and doing wild antics. When the sun sets after the parade, the greatest fireworks display in the foothills will light up the night sky. All this celebration of our nation’s independence is free including the parking in town and in the lot above the fairgrounds. Jack Morris, Loomis
