Bear River Little League’s 10- and 11-year-old All-Star squad clinched a berth in the District 11 Area 2 championship game with an 11-1 victory over Penn Valley Monday night. Catcher Tyler Toft, third baseman Kyle Soria and left fielder Robbie Hildebrand drove in two runs apiece for Bear River. Toft finished 3-for-3, Soria was 2-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly, and Hildebrand also doubled. Pitcher Dayton Anderson and second baseman Michael Scudero also had hits for Bear River, which could face either Sierra Foothills of Colfax, Mid-Placer of Newcastle or Penn Valley again in Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. championship game in Penn Valley. “Our team motto is, ‘Everybody has a job to do,’” Bear River manager Randy Anderson said. “These players are living up to that.” Dayton Anderson earned the complete-game victory in a game shortened after four innings due to the 10-run rule. The right-hander struck out five and gave up just five hits. “Defense was key again tonight,” Randy Anderson said. “Our middle infield of (shortstop) Nick Mansuetti and (second baseman) Matt Lopez did an excellent job.”
