Bear River claims title at Victory tourney

The Bear River High boys basketball team captured the title at the Victory Christian tournament in Carmichael Saturday, posting a 70-56 win over San Juan in the championship game.
Junior Justin Beskeen scored 24 points on his way to earning tournament MVP honors as the Bruins (5-5) avenged a loss to the Spartans earlier this month.
Brandon Wooner scored 19, Jonny Cassar added 12 and Trevor McGhee chipped in with 10 as Bear River led 52-33 after three quarters and iced the game in the fourth.
On Friday, Bear River stormed back from a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat host Victory Christian 60-51. Beskeen scored 23 and Wooner added 18. The Bruins outcored Victory 23-5 in the third quarter to take control.
Placer 70, Rite of Passage 46 at Sparks, Nev. — The Placer High boys basketball team rebounded from a loss to Casa Roble on Friday with a dominant performance Saturday at the Rail City Classic.
Junior Isaiah Pineiro had 20 points and nine rebounds on his way to earning all-tournament honors. Senior Andy Riggs also scored 20 and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Alec Knox scored 16.
Brennan Entz dished out five assists as the Hillmen improved to 7-3 on the year.
On Friday, Placer fell to Casa Roble 55-41. Pineiro scored 17 and added nine rebounds. Riggs scored 13 to go with six boards and four steals.
Del Oro 44, Whitney 29 at Rocklin — The Golden Eagles ran their record to 6-1 as the defense shined in Rocklin Friday night.
