Bear River doubles up Colfax; Placer tripped up

The Bear River High girls basketball team turned up the defense and knocked off rival Colfax Friday night at Lake of the Pines.
The Bruins limited the Falcons to just six second-half points in a 42-21 win over the Pioneer Valley League leaders. Senior Jenn Meylor scored 11 points while junior Sarah Hagar hauled in 13 rebounds, scored eight points and added four steals for the Bruins (6-3 PVL). Junior Savannah Welz added 10 points for Bear River.
Colfax (7-2 PVL) can still clinch the PVL title with a win on Wednesday at Lincoln.
Lincoln 44, Placer 41 — The Lady Hillmen fell flat in their home finale after winning three straight games. Placer fell to 5-4 in the Pioneer Valley League heading into its regular season finale on Wednesday at Foothill.
Lincoln dominated the middle of the game with a 31-18 advantage in the second and third quarters while Placer struggled to make shots all game long.
Kerry McCullough led the Lady Hillmen with 15 points. Ari Jensen added 12.
Cassandra James scored a game-high 16 for the Zebras (2-7 PVL).
