The Giants of Bear River Little League ran up against a tough opponent in the best-of-three District 11 Tournament of Champions final. Too tough. Area 2 champion Bear River suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the Area 1 champion Rocklin Orioles, falling 12-1 Saturday night at Auburn’s Beggs Field after dropping a 13-4 heartbreaker on Friday at the Magnolia Sports Complex in Lake of the Pines. “We used up all our pitching to win the area championship,” Giants coach Dave Beghetti said. Shortstop/catcher Jake DePass was responsible for the Giants’ only run Saturday night, homering in the third inning. The Giants actually led 4-2 in Friday night’s game before “things kind of blew up on us in the last inning,” Beghetti said. The Giants finished 23-5 on the season. “We had an awesome season,” Beghetti said. “Basically we were the No. 2 team out of 45 teams (in the district). They just beat us.”
