The following photographs are a few top pics from the year 2010. More often than not, big stories lend themselves to some of the best photographs. Within the first three weeks of 2010 one of the biggest stories to hit the press was the arrival of Haitian orphan Claire being reunited with her new family, the Bryditzkis. A month later the 2010 Winter Olympics had a local connection through Daron Rahlves, a U.S. skier from Truckee who happened to train at Sugar Bowl Resort just an hour’s drive from Auburn. It’s not often we get to ride along during an arrest, but such was the case in August when Auburn Police staged a sting operation to apprehend alleged sex offender Charles Burghy in the Rite Aid parking lot in Auburn. And lastly, in perhaps one of the biggest hoaxes of 2010, Travis Kevie made national news in July after claiming he was the new owner of the historic Valencia Club in Penryn, going as far as inviting customers in and serving them alcohol. Placer County Sheriff’s deputies recognized Kevie on the front page of the Journal and arrested him the very next day for selling liquor without a license. Since then, the restaurant and bar has re-opened with legitimate owners.
