Bicycles should have license plates

In regards to Keith Kenworthy’s suggestion for road improvements for bicycles (Reader Input, May 19), I would like to add that over the past several years I’ve noticed cyclists have become very skillful at running red lights, reckless driving and yes, even speeding. Many of these are the same skills I have developed over the years. The major difference being that I have to pay a registration fee and must have a license plate so that I can be identified and reported. It is impossible to report a pair of Speedos. I suggest all road cyclists over the age of 16-1/2 register their vehicles, pay a fee and have a plate installed. Result: California makes a few nickels and cyclists would be more inclined to obey the rules of the road. JOHN DOWNS, Newcastle
