Birthers prove school failings

I have read about “birthers,” but never quite believed they could really exist. And then Mr. Bob Velon of Penryn gave me the gift of reality (Reader Input, Sept. 5). It is a sad commentary on American literacy to know folks like Bob can naively assume any presidential candidate can hide his birth and college records — not only from the highest levels of the U.S. legal system, but from his erstwhile political opponents (in this case, the entire GOP). What better evidence (is there) that we have underfunded and mismanaged our school systems? George Farmer, Auburn
