The bodies of two missing all-terrain vehicle riders were found by Placer County Sheriff’s search and rescue teams late Tuesday night in a remote area outside of Foresthill. The bodies of Svetlana N. Koval, 23, of Redlands, and Vitaliy Kolyadich, 25, of Carmichael, were located down an embankment after an apparent crash just before midnight. Autopsies are scheduled for Thursday. “Family reported the pair missing on Monday to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department,” said Dena Erwin, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. The department joined the investigation and it was determined that the victims may have traveled to the Foresthill area to ride their ATV, Erwin said. Kolyadich’s truck was located at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday by a California Highway Patrol airplane, off Mosquito Ridge Road at Interbay Road, a U.S. Forest Service roadway near French Meadows. Sheriff’s search teams, including motorcycles, four-wheel-drive vehicles and the Mountain Rescue Team, responded and were able to locate the victims. “The victims and the ATV were found down an embankment,” Erwin said. “CHP is conducting the accident investigation, but it appears they went on the road and crashed. The ATV’s were found fur-ther down the embankment.” According to the CHP, the pair failed to negotiate a turn and collided with a tree. Neither riders were wearing helmets or protective gear, CHP officials said. The Journal's Jenna Nielsen can be reached at
