Placer Food Bank is seeking donations of handcrafted ceramic bowls for its Empty Bowls fundraiser, set for May 2 to 4 at the Rocklin Event Center, 4750 Grove St., in Rocklin. About 400 bowls are needed. The event raises hunger awareness and funds by hosting a simple meal. The empty bowls symbolize those who do not have enough to eat. Tickets are $50 for the wine reception and simple supper, taking place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. May 3. There will be luncheon seatings at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 2; tickets are $25. "We have seen a tremendous increase in the number of individuals who rely on local food pantries and feeding programs for supplemental or emergency food," noted Dave Martinez, Executive Director of Placer Food Bank. "Over the past three years the number of individuals we serve has grown 168 percent. Currently the need has outpaced our ability to fund it," he added. To donate one or more bowls, contact Mary at 521-4456.
