Bruins bring home bronze from Tracy

The Bear River High softball team suffered its first loss, but picked up three impressive wins at the NorCal Invitational in Tracy Friday and Saturday. The Bruins beat St. Mary's of Stockton 6-2 in Saturday's third place game, led by four hits from senior Jasmine McGown. Sierra Pruss added a double and two RBIs while Courtney Ceo had two hits. Bear River (12-1 overall) beat West of Tracy 8-1 in the tournament opener. Kelly Shepard pitched a five-hitter and Brooke Mosman clubbed a two-run home run to pace the offense. Katie Mathis and Ceo had two hits apiece and McGown knocked in three runs in the win. The Bruins' most impressive victory came Saturday aver Clovis. Facing Cougars standout pitcher Rebecca Arbino, Tori Humbard laid down a bunt to score Pruss in the eighth inning as Bear River pulled out a 1-0 win. Shepard got the win with a gem in the pitcher's circle. The Bruins' undefeated run ended with a 9-2 loss to Oak Ridge. Ceo smacked a home run, but Bear River's defense was uncharacteristically sloppy in defeat. It was a great tournament for us, Bear River coach Duane Zauner said. We accomplished our goals down there against some good Division I and Division II teams. Foresthill 16, Victory Christian 9 at Foresthill ” The Wildfires improved to 1-1 in the Central Valely Christian League, pounding out 13 hits on their home field. Sam Misuraca was 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBIs to lead the potent Foresthill attack. Chelsea Henry was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs while Lizzy Franceschini had a double, a triple and two walks. Jessie Anderson added a double and a triple for the Wildfires, who will travel to Forest Lake on Tuesday.
