The Bear River High baseball team started strong, but faded late and bowed out of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs Wednesday night at McCauliffe Park in Sacramento. Rio Linda beat Bear River 8-2 in the playoff opener. The Bruins ended their season with a 16-12 overall record. “We had a good year,” first-year coach Dahorl Ennis said. “We got back on track where we want to be. We just didn’t play our game tonight.” Bear River built a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth when the Knights rallied for four runs against Bruins starter Ryan Sawyer. Rio Linda – the Capital Valley Conference champion – tacked on two more runs in the fifth to take control. Senior Brandon Fry went 2-for-4 to pace the Bruins at the plate. Cole White and David Karas had the only other hits for Bear River. Rio Linda had 14 hits in the game and the Bruins committed three errors.
