Bruins rally past Whitney

Sean Smith picked up Bear River High teammate Morgan Juric Wednesday afternoon.
Smith’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning carried the Bruins past visiting Whitney 8-7 in their Pioneer Valley League opener.
Juric relieved starter Ryan Sawyer, entering with a 7-3 lead in the seventh. He allowed four runs in the inning before settling down in the extra frames to set up Smith’s heroics.
Sawyer struck out four in a no-decision. He also had two hits and an RBI.
Juric went 3-for-5 with a homer and 2 RBIs. Brandon Fry went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
A.J. Blashford had two hits and drove in two runs and Michael Lucas also had two hits.
Bear River (5-3 overall) travels to Colfax Friday afternoon.
In the JV game, James Harris struck out seven in five strong innings and drove in two runs at the plate in a 7-4 Bear River win. The Bruins improved to 6-2 overall.

Delta 7, Foresthill 2 at Clarksburg — The Saints used a five-run fourth inning to hand the Wildfires their first loss Wednesday.
Dave Whitsett allowed three earned runs in six solid innings for Foresthill, which fell to 2-1 and will host Forest Lake Christian Friday.
Whitsett had two hits and 2 RBIs. Ian Sykes and Gerald Sutton had the only other hits for the Wildfires, who committed five errors.
