Bruins tripped up at El Dorado

A slow start doomed the Bear River girls basketball team in Pioneer Valley League action Tuesday in Placerville. El Dorado beat the Bruins 51-40 despite 12 points from Jocelyn Fry, 10 from Melanie Fry and nine from Lindsey Harder. Bear River (12-7, 2-2 PVL) trailed 14-5 after one quarter. Down seven at the end of the third, the Bruins cut the deficit to three late in the game. Sacramento Waldorf 59, Forest Lake Christian 50 at Lake of the Pines — Kayla Campora exploded for 36 points, eight rebounds and four steals, but it wasn’t enough for the host Falcons, who suited up only eight players due to flu. The Waves led 29-18 at halftime before Forest Lake (10-8, 4-2 Central Valley Christian League) cut the deficit to five at the start of the fourth. Capital Christian 52, Golden Sierra 31 at Sacramento — Shannon Cummings scored nine and Jessica Blair added eight points in the loss, the first for the Grizzlies (9-11, 5-1) in Golden Empire League play. Vacaville Christian 56, Foresthill 21 at Foresthill — Megan O’Brien had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Wildfires (10-5, 3-3 CVCL).
