Can guardrail stop suicide?

I think that before we go ahead and raise the guardrail on the Foresthill Bridge (Journal, Nov. 15), we should ask ourselves, “Will this really help?” It is a horrible thing when a person takes his own life, but if he is that troubled, who says a guardrail will discourage him from finding another way to commit suicide? Why don’t we use the money to fund suicide prevention courses and programs that can help people like that? I’m not against the building of a higher guardrail. I just think we should ask ourselves if it will really help or if it is just to make ourselves feel better? LARA MACON, student, Auburn
