I see that according to the polls the voters are about to put their faith in Republican candidates to stop the recession they caused. Oh, how history is forgotten so soon. I can only remember one time when a Republican administration has stopped a recession — (Ronald) Reagan 1980-88. But that lasted only until George H.W. Bush was elected in 1988 and started a new recession. This one was ended by (Bill) Clinton in his third year, allowing him to be re-elected for a second term. This brings us to the second (President) Bush. Certainly this recent history is still remembered. He let 9/11 happen, started two wars, brought on two recessions, the second one still running up deficits and unemployment. The Republicans have caused every recession since the ’60s and they say they are going to fix this one? Be careful what you wish for, voters. Michael Douglas, Auburn
