Celebrate summer’s start with local fun

Don’t let the clouds and less-than-sizzling temperatures of the past few days fool you — summer is on its way. Celebrate the changing season with some serious fun this month. Auburn Movie Nights Auburn Movie Nights presents a summer of film favorites starting June 15. Film fans of all ages can expect nine free screening opportunities between June 15 and Aug. 10. Film viewing locations include Central Square, Recreation Park, Old Town and Regional Park. June films include “Secretariat” on June 15 in Central Square, “E.T.” June 22 at Recreation Park, and “American Graffiti” June 29 in Old Town. Confluence Festival This year marks the 20th anniversary of the American River Confluence Festival, which takes place June 12 at Overlook Park, 855 Pacific Ave. Highlights include nature, art, and canyon recreational activities, as well as a rock-climbing wall, live music, information booths, vendors, food and more. Chillin’ & Grillin’ The Boys & Girls Club of Auburn hosts its third annual summer fundraiser, Chillin’ & Grillin’ BBQ, Band & Auction, starting at 6 p.m. June 11. The 21-and-over fun happens at the Mullin & McAdams Clubhouse, 679 Lincoln Way. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door and include a barbecue dinner, live music by A Stones Throw and more. Auburn Art Walk The second Auburn Art Walk of 2011 takes place 6-9 p.m. June 9 at more than two dozen locations throughout Downtown and Old Town Auburn. Auburn Family Night Out The 12th annual Auburn Family Night Out takes place 5-9 p.m. June 18, promising nearly a mile of family fun between Downtown and Old Town Auburn. Check out a petting zoo, bounce house, bumper cars, entertainment, pony rides, face painting, games and more. The Chalk-A-Lot art contest has, for the first time, includes teen and adult entries.
