Celebration of life for Lucas Armand taking place at Del Oro Friday
A celebration of life for Lucas Arthur Armand is set to take place at Del Oro High School Friday.
Lucas, an athlete who went into cardiac arrest while miniature golfing in 2011, passed way on Dec. 20 from a severe case of pneumonia. He was 15.
Lucas, who suffered a massive heart attack on Sept. 23, 2011, followed by a debilitating anoxic brain injury, was an avid runner who had many friends throughout the Loomis Basin.
“He was in the hospital for over a year,” his father, David Armand, said. “Millions of dollars and they could do nothing for my boy.”
Lucas’ family and friends will be having a celebration of life for Lucas at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Del Oro High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 3301 Taylor Road, Loomis.
On Wednesday, David Armand said he was thankful for the numerous people throughout the community who gave support to Lucas during his time of need. Armand said Lucas was not only popular with his peers, but also adults.
“Some parents used to say, ‘I hope my son grows up to be like Lucas,’” Armand recalled. “It’s an amazing community to begin with.”
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to make a donation in Lucas’ name to their charity of choice or, join in further honoring Lucas and inspiring others by contributing to the “Lucas Armand Donation Fund.”
The proceeds will be used by the family to set up and support an annual college scholarship to benefit a cross country and/or track and field athlete(s) at Del Oro. Anyone wishing to donate may do so at any US Bank or at the celebration of life.
