This letter is in response to the Manzanita Cemetery vandalism (Journal, Nov. 18). When I lived in Santa Rosa, there was an old cemetery called the Rural Cemetery. It may have been rural at one time but the city had grown around it and there had been much vandalism — stones pushed over, broken glass, debris — and much neglect with weeds, dead tree limbs, etc. Under the aegis of the city’s recreation department, a volunteer group was organized with people adopting plots, Scouts helping and veterans volunteering to patrol on Halloween. There were many historic plots and research was done to find out about these pioneers. Candlelight tours were organized and were very popular. Perhaps something on the order of this could be started and I would be willing to wager that there might be a willingness to donate time and money for repairs. Janette Kelly, Lincoln
