As a tea party patriot dedicated to the care and feeding of the “golden goose,” I am dismayed to see that Senate Bill X12, the renewable energy measure, has been sent to Governor Brown. Let us all hope that Jerry Brown has learned something in the last 30 years about free enterprise and vetoes this bill. The requirement of SBX12 for public and private utilities to obtain 33 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2020 is unrealistic and would be extremely costly. According to a 2009 estimate by the state Public Utilities Commission, the implementation costs would be in the billions of dollars. These costs will consequently adversely impact businesses and continue the destruction of the “golden eggs” of prosperity. Hopefully, California will stop the incessant crushing attacks. Only then will this state regain its economic vitality. Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Linda, has said that “this is the kind of legislation that does damage to the economic health and well-being of California.” Fred Ludeman, Granite Bay
