City of Auburn backyard burn period continues into June

-A +A
City of Auburn residents have more time to reduce flammable vegetation around their homes by burning. According to Auburn Fire Chief Mark D’Ambrogi, the backyard residential burning period has been extended to June 21 unless fire conditions require cancellation of all open burning. D’Ambrogi said normally the backyard residential burning season runs from Nov. 1 to May 31. “Open burning is limited to dried natural vegetation cuttings,” D’Ambrogi said. “Burning regulations must be followed, which include burning on permissive days with a valid permit within the city limits of Auburn.” D’Ambrogi said burn permits that expire May 31 or June 1 will automatically be extended through June 21. Residents wanting to check current burn status can call (530) 889-6868, which is a pre-recorded message that changes daily. D’Ambrogi said burning and other methods of disposing of cut vegetation such as chipping, composting and green waste disposal are good ways of minimizing the risk of wildfire.
