City of Auburn skilled at blame game

In 2007 the Auburn City Council passed a $12 million measure for upgrading our waste water plant to meet 2010 state and federal specifications including those of the Regional Water Quality Control Board. The tax rate was increased 32 percent and hookup fees were doubled to cover the costs. At the council meeting we in attendance were told that this would keep the city from being fined. It now appears that those in charge have shown a lack of due diligence that would have at least insured that the modifications and/or necessary paperwork would be addressed to avoid any additional cost, especially for something as non-productive as $12,000 per month being handed over to another bureaucracy. The blame game as indicated in the paper is nothing but an indication of how our city responds when spending our tax dollars. Mike Monahan, Auburn
