City Council to hold special session Friday

-A +A
The Auburn City Council is holding a special session Friday afternoon to negotiate with a labor group. The Journal received the agenda for the meeting Thursday afternoon. “We just received a counter proposal from a labor unit that we are currently in negotiations with that is somewhat time sensitive,” said City Manager Bob Richardson Thursday. “And we received that (Thursday) afternoon. There is time sensitivity to their proposal, so the council will review their proposal and take whatever action they deem appropriate.” Richardson said the group in question is Local 39, which is the general employee union. Richardson said any decisions made about Local 39 could also potentially affect other unions’ proposals, including those of mid-management and confidential employees. The meeting is set to include public comment before the council adjourns to a closed session. After the closed session, the council will adjourn the meeting, according to city documents. Richardson said he didn’t believe there would be any reportable action out of the closed session, because any deal made would have to be signed by the union before coming back to the council for approval in a future open session. This was the first available time Richardson could find to gather a quorum of the council for the meeting, he said. ~Bridget Jones
