City insurance premiums high-priced

In regards to the article about the city salaries and resident comments (Journal, Nov. 22), I guess if you aren’t earning the $100K or $200K, these amounts seem excessive and maybe they are. But I was absolutely dumbstruck by the health insurance payments of $17,342, $21,161, $13,221, $20,093 and others, to various city department heads. What the what? My daughter pays $700 per month out-of-pocket for pretty good coverage for her family of five and I thought that was high. But what kind of health insurance could cost this much yearly? Doesn’t anyone shop around? Is this coverage “low bidder?” I would sure like to know who is handling these policies and what kind of wonderful coverage could possibly cost as much as some folks live on in one year.
