The Sierra Club Placer Group had an outstanding 2010 Earth Day of Service Auburn Community Clean-Up Day last Saturday, April 24, with volunteers collecting 45 bags of trash in a clean-up of Old Town, Highway 49, Nevada Street and Auburn-Folsom Road. We’d like to thank the Auburn Journal for its editorial cartoon and pre-event publicity, with a special thank you to features editor Loryll Nicolaisen. Much credit also goes to Megan Siren with the City of Auburn Public Works Department and to Nanette Hall and the California Conservation Corps. We also appreciate the donation from Aveda — Experience Center at Roseville Galleria. A special thanks as well to the volunteers who fanned out across town with the task of picking up trash. We had high school students, retirees, first-time volunteers and very experienced community servants. What we all shared was a desire to make our town the best it can be. Thank you for caring and helping protect and preserve our planet one town at a time. Heidi Van Zant and Joe Marman, Auburn
