Colfax baseball no longer unbeaten in PVL, Center beats FalconsBy: Gold Country News Service
All it took was one bad inning for the Colfax Falcons’ baseball team to see its perfect Pioneer Valley League record go up in flames.
Tied 2-2 in the fourth inning with visiting Center in Colfax Wednesday afternoon, the Falcons committed a one-out throwing error with no one aboard and ended up paying dearly for it in an eventual 9-5 loss to the visiting Cougars, Colfax’s first PVL setback after 10 consecutive wins.
“We made an error and they took advantage,” said Colfax coach Tim Day. “That’s baseball.”
Following the throwing error, a walk and two base hits led to a pair of bases-loaded walks that Center used to take a 4-2 advantage. Following that, Center added insult to injury with a bases-loaded triple.
When the dust had cleared, Center had paraded 11 batters to the plate in a six-run fourth inning that Colfax couldn’t recover from.
For the Falcons (10-1, 14-5), who play at Bear River Friday, Ryan Glazner, Devon Loomis, Kyle Bryant and James Dean all had run-scoring hits.
