Colfax boarders seize the day at Alpine Meadows

ALPINE MEADOWS — While Placer’s defending state champion Caty O’Connor competed for a junior world championship team spot at Copper Mountain Ski Resort in Colorado, the Colfax girls snowboard team took full advantage of her absence Monday at Alpine Meadows. In their second Central Division II race of the season and first slalom, the Falcons placed three girls in the top 10, helping Colfax win the combined girls and boys competition with 382 points North Tahoe was second with 369 points and Placer third with 340. Falcons’ Lisa Holm was the top local finisher, taking third place overall in 1 minute, 25.57 seconds, followed by Hannah West in fourth place. Hailey Davidson was Colfax’s third finisher, placing seventh. Placer senior Emma O’Bray was fifth overall to lead the Hillgals, followed by exchange student Moa Olsson 14th and Dani Ferretti 15th. Colfax’s Danny Kern was the top overall finisher in the boys race on his 17th birthday, finishing in a combined 1 minute, 17.43 seconds. Placer’s Pete Porata came in fifth overall to lead the Hillmen, while Bear River’s Bren Schenk was sixth and Placer’s Chris O’Connor shortly behind in 11th place. In junior varsity racing, Colfax placed six boys in the top 10. The teams return to action next Monday at Northstar-at-Tahoe in their second giant slalom.
