The Colfax High snowboard team widened its overall points lead over North Tahoe on Monday in a Central Division II slalom race at Boreal. The Falcons swept three of the top four spots in the boys race to cushion their lead heading into next week’s slalom at Alpine Meadows, the final race before next month’s state championships. Mackey Leal won in a combined 1 minute, 5.04 seconds, edging runner-up and teammate Danny Kern (1:07.22). Placer’s Pete Porata placed third (1:07.38) and Austin Leal of Colfax was fourth (1:09.09). Jacob Peek finished 13th overall for the Hillmen, followed by teammate Colton Davenport in 16th place. Bear River’s Matt Baukol and Tyler Kline finished 29th and 30th, respectively. In girls action, Placer’s Caty O’Connor returned after missing last week’s slalom race and slipped on one of her two runs, leaving the door open for Truckee freshman Ruby Wood. Wood won the race in 1:06.10, followed by O’Connor in 1:07.14. Emma Obray was 10th overall for the Hillgals (1:20.42), followed by teammate Jenna Harlacher in 24th place. Colfax freshman Nelly Steinhoff placed fourth (1:09.87). Teammates Shelby Young (12th) and Hailey Davidson (13th) also raced well. Demi Ganster led the Bear River girls in 21st place.
