A 27-year-old Colfax resident, Joshua Daniel, was hit on eastbound Interstate 80 east of Laing Road Friday, according to a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol Gold Run office Tuesday.

According to the CHP, Daniel was helping another motorist put on tire chains during a snowstorm on the right shoulder of I-80 eastbound when the driver of a 1996 Jeep, identified as A. Vogl, 22, of Winchester, CA, going approximately 35 miles per hour approaching Daniel from behind, lost control of his vehicle and slid sideways into the back of Daniel. Daniel was then pushed into his own vehicle and the Jeep continued sliding sideways, crossing all three eastbound lanes and coming to rest in a snow-covered ditch in the center divide.

Daniel was taken by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with head injuries. The collision is still under investigation, the release states.
