The Colfax High softball team got it done with the gloves Wednesday afternoon in Colfax.
The Falcons played error-free ball and took advantage of some sloppy play from Placer to win 6-2 and improve to 2-0 in the Pioneer Valley League.
Randi Anderson gave up five hits and struck out four to get the win for the Falcons. Ashley Scott and Jordan Gerlach had two hits apice while Randi Anderson added a double. Caressa Sharpe had Colfax’s only other hit.
Taylor Hill ripped a triple to score Haley Tupen, then scored on the relay as Placer scored two runs in the sixth, but fell short. Brooke Stufflebean had two hits. Jenna Knox gave up just one earned run while striking out three for Placer (2-1 PVL).
In junior varsity play Placer topped Colfax 8-3 to improve to 3-0 in the PVL.
Abby Strickland had three hits and scored two runs, Kasey Miller had two hits and an RBI while Lela Scott scored three runs and Clair Hansen knocked in two runs. Lizzy Rutherford got the win for the Hillgals.
On Monday, the Placer JV pounded Foothill 18-1 as Tara Erickson, Andrea Demello, Sammy Legon and Hansen led the way at the plate.
Bear River 11, Foothill 3 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins bounced back from a tough loss to Lincoln last Friday with a home romp.
Mackenzie Hollister was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Alyssa Reina was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Bear River’s offense. Courtney Edwards was 2-for-3 with a triple while Stephanie Ceo was 2-for-3 and Christianne Thill finished 2-for-4.
Maddie Phelps pitched five strong innings for the win and Erin Nichol closed out the win.
Bear River 220, Placer 229 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins jumped into the Pioneer Valley Legaue title race and damaged the title hopes of the Hillmen Wednesday.
Bear River’s Cory Langseth matched Placer’s Rob Schauble as both shot 5-over-par 40. Jake DePass fired a 43 for the Bruins. Kyle Nelson added a 44, Aubrey Harwell carded a 45 and Austen Rankin added a 48 for the Bruins (3-1 PVL).
The Hillmen (4-2 PVL) got a 45 from Nathan Bonner, a 46 from Ryan Holden and 49s from Austin Childress and Peter Kean.

Forest Lake Christian 7, Higlands 2 at Highlands — The Falcons added another win to their record, making them a perfect 9-0 in the Sierra Delta League.
Highlights included Forest Lake’s domination in all of the singles matches. No. 1girls single Amanda Timmerman won both of her matches (6-2, 6-0) and No. 2 girls single Courtney Turner followed suite (6-2, 7-5).
No. 1 boys single Nate Burnette swept his matches (6-0, 6-0). Cameron Patton secured a close win for the Falcons in three matches (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).
