Conceivable ways to fail

I found Dale Smith’s letter (“Obama fails in every conceivable way,” Jan. 27) a good sample of where we, the citizens, too often fail. When we have the opportunity to air our views (enhanced by the Journal giving this reader’s letter two columns with a large heading), we are expected to address issues seriously and hope to make a contribution and attract readers to our opinion. Does Mr. Smith sincerely believe that President Obama “hates America” and “loathes Americans?” Does he realize that with this tone he defines himself, and not the president nor his actions, and in the process makes his own views suspect.
