County workers give back via toy, food drive

-A +A
Placer County employees from several different departments came together once again for the common good of giving back this holiday season. Local workers, in tandem with the nonprofit organization Correctional Officers and Personnel Staff (C.O.P.S.), have been collecting food and gathering new toys for the last couple of weeks. The food donations will wind up in baskets donated by the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet. The toy donations, including those purchased with donations received by the fundraising efforts of C.O.P.S., were delivered to the Auburn Salvation Army and will be distributed to children and families who are struggling financially within the community this holiday season. Volunteers participating in the toy and canned food drive this year included mechanics, animal services technicians, agricultural specialists, farm advisers, horticulture and small farms, Master Gardener program, 4-H and nutrition programs, accountants, maintenance personnel, administrative legal clerks and correctional officers. The overwhelming response from those who helped is a true reflection of the C.O.P.S. motto, which is “caring for our community.”
