Credit Hollitz for literacy plan

I was very pleased to see today’s (Seen & Heard, Oct. 10) regarding the 25th anniversary of Placer Adult Literacy Service (PALS), a Placer County Library organization that has been responsible for bringing the joy of reading to hundreds of adults in Placer County. The story of PALS is incomplete without giving due credit to Kitty Hollitz who developed the original plan. In 1985, Ms. Hollitz was director of information and referrals at the Auburn Library and she wrote the successful grant to obtain funds from the state library to start the program and maintain it for the first five years. The fact that PALS has flourished for 25 years is vivid testimony to the creativity of Kitty’s original plan. Thank you, Kitty!
