The Sierra Foothills Cycling Club Board presented the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund with a $4,189.60 check, Tuesday, before the Downtown Rotary Meeting at the Elks Lodge. This amount represents a portion of the proceeds from the Gold Country Century held on May 14. Balloon sales in honor of cancer survivors and in memorial of those who died raised about $1,500, while an extra $400 was raised in lunch sales that day. Overall the event helped contribute a little over $6,000 to the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund. Members of the Rotary helped with the barbecue lunch and purchased balloons to support the event. This was the cycling club’s first century ride. Board member Betty Bennett said many factors played a role in its success. “With this being the SFCC’s first century, we are elated to be able to contribute this amount,” Bennett said. “Being a part of Bike Auburn and an official ancillary event to the Amgen Tour of California contributed to our success.”
