More than 300 mountain bike riders of all abilities tackled plenty of mud and several creek crossings on the Olmstead Loop Trail Sunday. Competitors in the 19th annual Cool Mountain Bike Race vied for victory in one-, two- and three-lap races, determined by each division. The race, sponsored by Auburn Bike Works and directed by Bike Works owner Lisa Kodl, is a popular fundraiser. “This year the funds raised at the race will go to benefit the Placer Foothills Mountain Bike Club and will be used to purchase children’s bikes for the Christmas Basket Program in December,” Kodl said. Cotati resident Michael “Buck“ Hosey, 23, was the overall winner and first-place finisher in the Pro Division. Hosey rode three laps and covered the 30 miles in 2:03:10. “The course was fun, a little muddy but not that technical,” Hosey said after the race. “It was wide open power, which is good for me.” ~ Michael Kirby
