How uplifting to see the recent letters reasoning against the death penalty. I have long viewed its use as barbaric, immoral and, above all, a colossal waste of money. We could hire 40 teachers for every murderer we put on death row. All but a very few civilized societies have figured out that the health and education for their law-abiding citizens is worth more than the administration of death for the few who have demonstrated their worthlessness. Lock them up! Forget vengeance. Look at the bottom line and keep in mind that we don’t rape the rapist. PATRICK R. LITTLE, Auburn
