Deep six the Auburn dam

Re: “Taxpayers don’t foot dam cost” (Reader Input, March 18). Bill George, Tom McClintock’s press secretary, makes the claim that our poor congressman is misunderstood and that, if the Auburn dam was built, “the entire cost should be entirely paid by the beneficiaries of these projects.” Congressman, are you so naive that you actually believe that the monies will not eventually be taken out of taxpayers’ pockets in the form of higher prices on good/services or utilities? And do you actually believe that Jon and Jane Q. Public (your constituents) don’t know this? The whole dam idea needs to be deep-sixed. Patricia Burke, Newcastle
