Del Oro’s defense leads the way

The Del Oro High girls basketball team returned home and turned up the defense against Oak Ridge Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Briana Ruiz scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Belle Obert had 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks as the Golden Eagles beat the reigning Division I state champions.
Del Oro led 23-14 at the half and extended the gap to 34-17 after three quarters. Sophomore Stephanie Geyer scored eight in the Eagles’ final game before Sierra Foothill League play.
Del Oro (11-2) will host Rocklin on Friday to open the SFL season.

Woodcreek 49, Placer 38 at Roseville — The Lady Hillmen lost to a Sierra Foothill League squad for the second time in five days on Saturday.
Placer (5-9) will hit the road again Tuesday against Vista Del Lago.

Foresthill 51, Sacramento Waldorf 35 at Foresthill — The Wildfires rallied in the second half to knock off another Central Valley Christian League power for the first time Friday night.
After beating Forest Lake Christian earlier in the week, Foresthill topped the Waves thanks to a comeback that began in the third quarter.
Sophomore Cherish Miles led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. Fellow sophomore Sadie Stroup added 14 points, 12 boards and six steals. Sara Dondelinger, Bella Engbreteson and Bailey McDonald were outstanding on defense as Foresthill improved to 2-0 in the CVCL and 11-3 overall.
