A tough preseason slate for the Golden Eagles varsity boys wrestling team might have been just what the doctor ordered.
In its Sierra Foothill League opener, Del Oro scored a victory by a huge margin Wednesday night against visiting Rocklin, 67-6.
“We have had a tough schedule so far this season and it has really served to help our guys with their intensity level,” coach Dave Sanchez said. “We have seen and wrestled some of the best guys in the state and surrounding states. As a team we have concentrated on improving every week and doing the things necessary to win the close matches.”
The Eagles, who scored several pins against Rocklin, face a tough Woodcreek squad on the road next week.
“We have several tough SFL matches ahead of us this month,” Sanchez said, “and I think we are wrestling really well right now.”
Del Oro’s JV team won 76-6 over Rocklin.
This weekend Del Oro will head to Anderson High School for the “Beast in the North” tournament.
Said Sanchez: “We hope to bring home many medalists.”
