Del Oro boys sending 10 wrestlers to Masters

106 Isaac Blackburn, third place, with his only loss to state No. 1-ranked Gionn Peralta of Vacaville in the semifinals.

113 Freshman Clay Shropshire, fifth.

120 Zach Ruybal third.

126 Jansen Engelbrecht, fourth.

132 Tanner Robison, second, after a close loss in the finals to Bobby Ehman of Vacaville. Robison led most of the match, but a pair of false starts cost him 2 points and he lost 9-6.

145 Johnny Zieour, third, losing only to eventual champion and state-ranked Hayden Fry in the semifinals. He won by major decision in the third-place match, 10-1.

182 Brandon Jeppson, fourth, had a breakout performance. He is wrestling much bigger guys, being outweighed by over 15 pounds.

Heavyweight Saul Meneses, sixth, lost a pair of close matches. 


The Del Oro boys wrestling team earned a second-place finish at Saturday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championships in Napa and are sending 10 wrestlers on to next week’s Masters tournament in Stockton.

The Golden Eagles finished 80 points ahead of Gregori of Modesto, but trailed first-place Vacaville by nearly as many points.

Three Eagles made it to the finals and Patrick Neu and Dylan Kainrath came away as champions.

At 160, Neu beat Danny Delgado of Vacaville in an exciting back-and-forth match, 14-10.

At 170, Kainrath won a hard-fought match, 3-1, against Ezra Morgan of Napa High. Kainrath had the only takedown of the match.

The top-eight placers this weekend qualified for Masters. Next week, the top seven qualify for the CIF State Meet.
