MERCED — Having dealt itself a brutal schedule this fall, the Del Oro High football team has certainly taken its lumps. The Golden Eagles dropped a nonleague game to Merced 21-14 Saturday night. The Bears (3-1) were ranked No. 17 in the state before being pounded by Edison of Fresno 43-14 on Sept. 26. Del Oro (1-3) opened its season with losses to Lake City, which is currently ranked seventh in the state of Idaho, according to the Web site MaxPreps.com, and Cardinal Newman, one of California’s perennial private-school powers. The Golden Eagles’ schedule won’t get any easier Friday night when they host unbeaten Elk Grove (4-0) in their final nonleague contest of the season. Another unbeaten squad, Sierra Foothill League rival Granite Bay, follows a week later. No other information was available about Saturday’s game.
