If there was any question about the future of the Del Oro High football program being in good hands, the Golden Eagles’ freshman team may have something to say about that.
Perhaps giving a glimpse of the future, the Del Oro frosh football team capped a very strong 9-1 season by blanking Rocklin recently to win the outright Sierra Foothill League crown.
“We had a good group of kids who played hard all season long,” said Del Oro coach Keith Powers. “It was a very rewarding season for the team and coaches.”
Remarkably, of Del Oro’s eight victories on the year, eight were by shutout margins. In SFL games, the Golden Eagles dispatched Woodcreek, 41-0,
Roseville, 35-7, Granite Bay, 27-0, Nevada Union, 43-0, and last week, Rocklin.
Del Oro’s lone loss came in September at the hands of Oak Ridge, 27-15. Oak Ridge went on to finish the season a perfect 10-0.
Powers noted that the Golden Eagles had several standouts on the offensive line including Roddy Hamilton and Chris Lamanta. They helped open holes for running backs Andrew Smith, Christian Guerrero and Andrew Keffe.
Also enjoying strong seasons were quarterback Justin Burrage, receiver Trey Udoffia and linebacker John Spencer.
