It should be an interesting final two weeks of the Sierra Foothill League JV football race. Thanks to a lopsided 40-13 domination of previously undefeated Woodcreek last Friday night, Del Oro’s Golden Eagles are sniffing at a possible shot at the SFL crown. Del Oro’s win, coupled with Roseville’s victory over previously undefeated Granite Bay last Friday, left four SFL JV teams – Del Oro, Granite Bay, Roseville and Woodcreek – all tied for the loop lead with identical 2-1 league marks. Something will definitely have to give in the race as while Del Oro ends with home contests this Friday against Rocklin and on Nov. 14 versus Oakmont, Granite Bay and Woodcreek still have to play along with Woodcreek meeting Roseville. In last Friday’s win, Del Oro coach Jerry Van Lengen praised the efforts of the offensive line for leading the Golden Eagles’ charge. Helping the Black and Gold control the ball and the clock were strong efforts from Dustin Mollard, Aaron Harvey, Ryan Cope, Adrian Garibaldo, Cameron Soldano and Tyler Adair Now 6-2 overall on the season, Del Oro used a 45-yard touchdown run by Kenny Andri, a five-yard scoring aerial from Max Magleby to Shoey Martinson and a one-yard touchdown plunge by Cody O’Sullivan to help the Golden Eagles build a 20-0 advantage in the first half. After Woodcreek got on the scoreboard to trim the count to 20-7, Del Oro answered with Magleby and Brandon Acuna hooking up on a 35-yard touchdown pass to allow the hosts to go into the locker room with a 26-7 at the break. After a scoreless third quarter, O’Sullivan upped the lead to 33-7 Del Oro by going over for another six points, this time on a six-yard run. Del Oro then put the finishing touches on the big win by using an exciting 83-yard pass interception return by O'Sullivan for its final score of the evening. Kevin Duarte and Mason Black also intercepted passes for Del Oro in the win.
