With the second half of Sierra Foothill League girls soccer play underway, the Del Oro Lady Eagles are positioning themselves for a run at a playoff spot.
Thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over Roseville and a 1-1 tie with Woodcreek last week, the Del Oro girls currently sit in third place in a tight SFL race.
Granite Bay leads the soccer chase with a mark of 4-1-1 heading into this week’s spring break where all teams are off. Rocklin (3-1-2) meanwhile is in second place while Del Oro (3-2-1) follows closely.
Also trying to stay in the postseason picture are Roseville (2-2-2), Woodcreek (2-2-2). Nevada Union (0-6) rounds out the standings.
In last week’s win over Roseville, Del Oro struck for three first-half goals to put the match on ice early. Goals by Cienna Wilkins and freshmen Cassidy Marquez and Paige Martinsen led the win. Two more freshmen, Savannah Scott and Rachel Gensch, were credited with assists.
Del Oro, which fell to Woodcreek in the first round of league play, was trying to turn the tables on the Timberwolves but had to settle for the 1-1 draw. Kayla Collins scored Del Oro’s goal in the first half.
The Lady Eagles will resume SFL play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, when they host Rocklin in a key SFL match.
