Del Oro volleyball stays hot, taking down Ponderosa

Aly Duffin had 11 kills and Hannah Oros added 10 kills and four blocks as the Del Oro High volleyball team topped Ponderosa 27-25, 25-10, 20-25, 25-6 Tuesday in Shingle Springs. Belle Obert also finished with 10 kills and had four aces in Del Oro’s first match since finishing runner-up to St. Francis at the 36-team High Sierra Invitational in Nevada last weekend. “We were riding such an emotional high after we did so well at the tournament,” head coach Stu Kageta said. “It’s a natural thing in sports. Sometimes when you come down off that high it’s hard to pick it back up. We kind of came out flat at times, but we showed back up in the fourth game.” Natalie Consulo sealed the match by rattling off 15 consecutive serves for points in the fourth game. Del Oro (8-2) hosts Colfax today at 6 p.m. Lincoln 3, Forest Lake 0 at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons fell for the first time this season despite 10 kills, four blocks and six digs from senior Morghan Pomeroy. Caitlin Hanson added six kills while Jen Menary had four kills and 11 assists. Christy Johnston hustled for five digs. SOCCER Colfax 3, Forest Lake 1 at Colfax — Steven Smith, Austin Oberg and Michael Manning each scored goals for the Falcons, who improved to 3-1 after being shut out by Woodcreek in their season opener. Smith narrowly missed his second goal of the game in the final minute when his penalty kick bounced off the left post. Woodland 4, Placer 1 — Austin Dunn scored off a Dylan Day assist in the loss for the host Hillmen, who fell to 4-3 overall. Placer hosts Mira Loma today at 4 p.m.
