Motorists on westbound Interstate 80 will be detoured today from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for combined maintenance operations, according to Caltrans. The detour is scheduled to begin at Highway 20 for commercial vehicles and at Rollins Lake Road for passenger vehicles. Caltrans said this closure is necessary for maintenance crews to perform a variety of maintenance work on a narrow section of I-80 know as the “three mile grade.” • Commercial vehicles- All commercial vehicles will be detoured at Highway 20. Vehicles will be directed west on Highway 20 to Highway 49 in Nevada City. The detour will continue south on Highway 40 to Bell Road in Auburn. Bell Road will return drivers to I-80 westbound. • Passenger vehicles- All passenger vehicles will be detoured at Rollins Lake Road. Motorists will be directed west on Rollins Lake Road to Highway 174. The detour continues south on 174 to I-80 westbound. Caltrans and California Highways Patrol urge motorists to use caution when driving through the detour and to reduce their speeds on detours. ~Journal Staff Report
