Mid-February opening planned for Recreation Park fitness area
Installation of new fitness equipment is currently under way at Recreation Park as well as replacement of the playground destroyed by fire in August. According to Pam Vann, Auburn Recreation District landscape architect, six pieces of new fitness equipment will be installed over engineered wood chips, including rowing machines, three-level chin-up bars, seated leg and chest presses and a body curl device. Cost for the fitness area is just under $20,000 while cost for the playground is $76,912 after a grant of $46,192 and an insurance settlement of $19,000 were applied to the project base price of $142,104. “This is a great project for the community as this is a state-of-the-art playground and is an ADA Universally Accessible facility,” Vann said. “We are thrilled to make this facility available to the public at such a greatly reduced cost.” Anticipated opening is mid-February, weather permitting.
