Is the DMV open on weekends and holidays?
By: George Valverde Ask the DMV
Q: Are any of the California Department of Motor Vehicles offices open during holidays or weekends? I need to visit a field office to renew my driver license, and holidays and weekends are the only times I don’t have to work. A: Unfortunately, DMV field offices are not open on weekends. But you can visit dmv.ca.go to find a local field office with hours that may fit your schedule. Just click on the “DMV offices” link at the top of the home page and click the “find your office” option. Additionally, keep in mind that DMV field offices will be closed on the first three Fridays of each month until June 2010, as a result of the state furloughs implemented as a result of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most recent executive order. You can also find out which holidays the DMV offices will be closed by going online and clicking the “offices” tab on the home page. From there, under the “interrupted services and closure information” section, click the “holidays DMV will be observing” link. DMV field offices follow the same holiday schedule as all California State agencies. Q: I’m the webmaster for my dad’s car dealership Web site. Part of my job requires me to remain current and knowledgeable on new DMV laws and regulations, and I am constantly looking on the DMV’s Web site to make sure I have all the correct information. Does the DMV have an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) that I can subscribe to that will update me when there is new information? A: Absolutely. When you subscribe to the DMV’s RSS feed, it regularly sends you an updated summary of the DMV Web site’s content, along with links to full versions of that content. Try it out at dmv.ca.gov.
