Don’t apply cheapness to fire safety

I just cannot understand what is so wrong with the City of Newcastle and Measure B. For some reason people think that just because they vote down Measure B that they won’t have to pay a fire tax. If Newcastle Fire Department closes due to its budget issues, the City of Newcastle will have to make other arrangements for fire protection in the city. If this happens, then the citizens of Newcastle could end up paying a lot more! There is also no possibility they will not get the option to vote on how much you are charged or how their money is spent. They will also be looking at increased response times to emergencies. When your house or property is in danger doesn’t every second count? Just something else for the people of Newcastle to think about besides their insurance premiums. Sean Lomen, Colfax
