Easy fix exists for swallow issue

Re: Swallows return to Court- house, Journal, March 22. Instead of putting up (non-effective) netting for $35,000 to prevent nesting, why not suspend rough, unpainted boards under the eaves? That’s what the swallows prefer for building nests. It would save the courthouse surfaces and could be removed for cleaning at the end of the nesting season. We could add a 1- to 2-inch lip-board at the bottom to keep the ah, by-products, from falling on unsuspecting visitors. This would seem to be a good compromise for the county, building, jurists, residents, tourists, and swallows. I’m just saying, we all live here. And Auburn is still a bird sanctuary, last I heard.
